Postcard Writing

Tuolumne County Indivisible Postcard Campaign

Stop the Trump power grab! Write to CA voters to pass Prop 50, the redistricting reform bill also known as the Election Rigging Response Act.

Our Goal: Weekly or Bi-Weekly postcard pickups up between September 13th and October 13th, and you mail your postcards as you write them and by October 18 at the latest, but the sooner the better! We will have packs of 10 postcards for you to pickup regularly during this time, along with a total of 750 addresses. We can order more if need be.

Our Ask: We need a few volunteers who would be willing to package up postcards and addresses in groups of 10 and help with weekly distributions from a central location or home. Email us at tuolumnecountyindivisible [at] gmail [dot] com.

Background: Texas Republicans passed rigged Congressional maps in order to gain five new House seats, making flipping the US House blue in 2026 extremely difficult. In response, CA is stepping up and asking voters to approve temporary redistricting; California state law requires voters to approve a ballot measure to allow the redistricting to happen. Californians must pass Prop 50 on November 4, 2025 to allow new CA maps to be enacted in 2026.

Voters: We are writing to over 3 million Democratic voters who do not usually vote in mid-term or special elections, making sure they know about this special election and asking them to return their ballots ASAP. (All registered voters in CA will receive a mail-in ballot.)

The Background and Fight

Democrats have a real chance to take back the House of Representatives in 2026 with the maps we currently have. Polls show plummeting support for Trump and a demand for Congress to finally do its constitutional duty and serve as a check on executive power. Trump knows this, and he is not waiting for the voters. He made an unprecedented power grab, pushing through rigged maps designed to steal congressional seats and fix the 2026 election before a single ballot is cast. Texas and other red states have already drawn maps that guarantee Republican control of the House, no matter how the people vote.

California is the firewall. This may be our last chance to protect representative democracy. On August 21, the state legislature passed the Election Rigging Response Act, which set a special election for November 4. On that day, voters will decide Proposition 50. A yes vote will put emergency maps into place to counteract the power grab.

These maps are temporary, ending in 2030.

In 2031, California’s independent commission will return to draw new maps based on the 2030 census.

This campaign will focus on the Democratic base of regular voters and non-voters, while also reaching the independents.

Canvassing will happen in every California county, from rural areas to big cities and their surrounding suburbs.

While Texas and other Republican strongholds rammed through their maps without a shred of public input, California is giving the people the power to decide.

It is up to us. This is a one-time opportunity to stop Trump’s election rigging scheme and rescue our democracy.

Vote Yes on Proposition 50.By voting YES, Californians will:

  • Levels the playing field for 2026
  • Commits to Fair Redistricting
  • Gives Voters the Power to Approve Temporary Maps
  • Is Fair and Proportional, providing emergency maps in response to GOP power grab
  • Keep the door open for a representative democracy that reflects the will of the people

This is a one time opportunity to restore balance and protect the vote.
